Home victory against Charleroi
For the third time in a row, the Unionists have won their league game! Today, it was our defenders who put on a show, particularly Sykes, who seems to be doing very well every time we play Charleroi at home!
The start of the match was fairly neutral with no real danger from either side until the 14th minute when the first Union corner fell at the feet of Terho, but his shot was blocked by the opposition defence.
Nevertheless, Union continued to push forward and won another corner, which Sykes headed home in the 17th minute. 1-0.
In the 28th minute it was Charleroi who pushed forward and equalised through Parfait Guiagon. 1-1. 10 minutes later they almost went ahead with a second goal, but it was disallowed for offside.
Union stepped up in injury time. First Burgess headed in a corner delivered by Puertas corner to make it 2-1 for Union. But that wasn't the end of it, as Sykes also headed in a Puertas free-kick at 45+4'. 3-1.
A calm second half
After the break, the two sides were fairly evenly matched and in the 68th minute, Joachim Imbrechts came on to replace Moris. Congratulations Jo on your first Pro League minutes!
As always, Amoura was hurting the opposing team, and he almost made it 4 goals for the Unionists, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
See you on Thursday for our historic match against Liverpool at Anfield. Allez l'Union !
