Union qualifies after magical night in Frankfurt and draws Fenerbahçe
For the second season in a row, Union qualifies for the round of 16 in a European Cup. A phenomenal achievement! Puertas and Eckert Ayensa scored, guiding Union past Eintracht Frankfurt towards the next round against Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
Our Unionists were on a mission: qualification for the Conference League eighth finals. A packed Deutsche Bank Park saw a closed first half. Marmousch did threaten Moris, Machida put Trapp to work from distance.
Just before the break Chaïbi with a free kick, Moris saved. Just after the second half whistle got underway, a ball steal by Rasmussen followed. The Norwegian served Amoura, who dribbled free around the sixteen and found Puertas. Immediately popped with the left and 0-1!
Frankfurt had to come and did so through half-chances. Marmoush could not beat Moris at the first post.
To the other side then. Corner kick for Union via Puertas, the ball at the feet of substitute Eckert Ayensa and boom! 0-2! Party in the away end.
Union seemed to have qualification in the bag, although Frankfurt still softened in the closing stages to 1-2, as we held on well. An exceptional performance and a deserved victory and qualification!
