Union loses on opening day of the play-offs in Genk
Genk put pressure firmly at the start of the match. Union had to get into the game, but the first chance did go to the visitors. After a rehearsed corner kick, Sadiki had it all to himself, but he missed.
On the opposite side, Moris had to be ready immediately to prevent the breakthrough Tolu from scoring.
The game then again fell somewhat silent. Until, after an assessment error by Moris, Tolu made it 1-0.
Union's reply came through Puertas, who curled it narrowly wide. 1-0 on the scoreboard at half-time.
Blessin brought on Rasmussen for Eckert Ayensa at the start of the second half. Union started to press a bit more, but we struggled to impose our game.
Nilsson had a great chance, Vandervoordt saved, but Nilsson was touched inside the box after his shot. Not enough for a VAR intervention.
Castro-Montres also could have made it 1-1, but missed narrowly when facing Vandervoordt. Castro-Montes got another chance afterwards, but could not put enoguh power to worry the opposing goalkeeper.
Not the first game we wished for, but we’ll keep on pushing like you have been pushing us. 👊 pic.twitter.com/4mEZifjtDs
