Union flies with sustainable fuel from Brussels Airlines
Brussels, 28 November 2023 - Union Saint-Gilloise and Brussels Airlines agree to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for all of the football club's international travel from now on. SAF is a more sustainable fuel that can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80 per cent*. From now on, 100 per cent of SAF will be purchased for all of Union's international travel. Union is the first European football club to sign such an agreement.
With "Union Inspires", the team from Brussels aims to be an environmental advocate in the sports world. Union aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by the year 2030. As such, Union was the first football club to introduce reusable cups. Now the club is going one step further, thanks to this important collaboration with Brussels Airlines.
100% of SAF will be acquired in cooperation with Brussels Airlines for all flights operated by Union. Union is the first Belgian and European football club to take such an initiative.
At Union, the aim is to not only focus on on-pitch performances. Our club stands for connection with our local community and a constant pursuit of the most sustainable and ecological solution. We want to travel around Europe in the most efficient and eco-friendly way possible. With Brussels Airlines, we share the same sustainable philosophy and this partnership puts the ambitions of both sides into action.
- Victor Pensis, commercial director, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise
As a true fan of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, I am thrilled to announce this partnership. I am so happy that we can fly Union to their international games and even happier that we can do so thanks to the purchase of sustainable fuel. Making flying more sustainable is at the heart of what we do, every day. With Union as an ambassador, I hope many of our partners and customers will follow their lead and join us in investing in SAF.
