Late Machida goal keeps Union in race towards Heysel

After an off-day from the Unionists in Bruges, Machida provided a bright spot. His late 2-1 was important to keep the return leg of the semi-finals alive. Ticket sales for that match will start on Monday 12/02, when season ticket holders will be able to purchase their seats for an important cup night at the Marien Stadium. More information on the further sales stages can be found in this article.

About the match we can be very brief. Union did not get a foothold from the start of the match. Club Brugge dominated and the first chance ended in Moris' net through Skov Olsen. He drove the ball up, cut inside and turned it into the far corner. 1-0 thus for the hosts after about 10 minutes.

And you actually have to be able to survive that opening phase in Bruges to then fight your way into the match. But we hardly got any chances, at both ends of the pitch. Amoura still touched the ball with his head, but Mignolet was able to pick it up.

Castro-Montes and Mac Allister were too late at the far post to prevent Jutgla from scoring, 2-0 and Heysel seemed far away. Very far.

Second half then? You would think so. But we counted 44 seconds after kick-off and Skov Olsen cleverly swished in front with his right. Castro-Montes and Mac Allister were too late at the far post to prevent Jutgla from scoring, 2-0 and the Heysel seemed far. Very far.

Coach Blessin made a triple change. Among others, Machida came into the team to strengthen the left side. But he did more than that. Deep in added time, a free kick by Rasmussen fell plumply lost inside the penalty area. Koki scored his first for Union and it could be a very important one at the end of this month.

Tickets for the return leg go on sale for season ticket holders on Monday 12/02. The busy month of February continues with Saturday's match against Westerlo at home. Tickets for that match will be available through resales. So keep a close eye on our ticketing website.
