There are no Natura 2000 sites or nature reserves in the vicinity of the project. The nearest area of interest is the “Vallée du Vogelzangbeek” nature reserve, located more than 1,000 meters to the northwest.

The future stadium will absolutely not be located within the park area that includes, in particular, the Bempt ponds.

The project has been entirely designed to limit and offset the impacts of construction:

  • The design minimizes site sealing as much as possible to preserve vegetation and open ground areas to the greatest extent.

  • The project notably includes the creation of new vegetated slopes, grassy areas, and wetlands in the valley formed by the Promenade Verte.

  • The vegetated areas will consist of native plant species that promote biodiversity. The species will be diverse and will help recreate different vegetation layers (herbaceous, shrubby, and tree).

  • Specific features are planned to encourage wildlife: brush piles, dry stone walls, vegetated swales, and birdhouses, among others.

  • Finally, the project also incorporates a series of targeted recommendations formulated by the ecologists who conducted the ecological assessment. These recommendations aim to limit residual impacts on flora and fauna, both during construction and operation, in line with the ERC (Avoid-Reduce-Compensate) approach.
