Union wins deservedly in Eupen
In Eupen, Union had an easy afternoon, although we were startled by an unnecessary goal in the second half. But finally we grabbed victory again thanks to goals from Amoura and Puertas.
The intentions of both teams were clear from the start. Eupen hung a bit lower and wanted to counter, Union had to find a hole in the defense of the East Belgians.
After dominating the possession game, chances came thick and fast. Puertas and Rodriguez were still blocked by Slonina, but after that, Union was able to make a difference. Lazare served Rodriguez, who lashed a shot out, Slonina saved and Amoura tapped in the rebound. 0-1.
Lovely shot
After less than half an hour, the score was 0-2. Union played great football on the right side to free Vanhoutte, who laid off for Puertas, who put the ball top bins for the 0-2.
Goal Rodriguez disallowed
After the break, Union quickly made it 0-3 through Rodriguez, but his goal was disallowed for being just offside. Eupen got one back in the 70th minute on a counter. Burgess defended a little too lightly and Charles-Cook served Davidson for 1-2.
Burgess almost made up for his mistake with a header that smashed the crossbar. Rodriguez also had another excellent chance in the slot, after a great dribble, he kicked it over the bar.
It remained 1-2 and our thirteenth unbeaten game in a row. Now a deserved day's rest with the family as we then look forward to the final match of 2023 in and against Club Brugge!
