Union take the lead against FC Lugano

The first match of this UEFA Europa League play-off double-header is won 2-0 by our Unionists!

The first shot was for yellow and blue. Our number 23, Cameron Puertas, sent in a shot that was blocked by the Swiss keeper. Lugano then tried to respond but in vain, the shot going over. Then Lapoussin tried a curling effort that went wide. And then, in the 8th minute, a cross coming from the right wing found Rasmussen who saw his shot saved by Eckert. But Dennis finally managed to open the scoring when he struck a ball that found itself in the box. The first 10 minutes were intense!

Union dominates

Then, a mastersave from the opposing goalkeeper prevented Union from doubling the lead in the 14th minute when Puertas got on the end of Eckert Ayensa's cross and fired home. The Swiss side scored a goal from a corner in the 32nd minute, which was immediately cancelled out by VAR for a handball. Before half-time it was Puertas who once again alerted the opposing keeper.

Cassu scores

After the break and until the 65th minute, the game was more balanced. The man who doubled the lead was Casper Terho. In the 70th minute, a counter-attack led by Lazare found Cassu on the right, who lit up the opposition goal with a low shot. At the end of the match Lazare almost scored a third with a bouncing header that went over the goal.

The game ends and it's a victory for Union Saint-Gilloise. We meet again next week in Geneva for the second leg of the UEFA Europa League play-offs round. Tickets for the second leg go on sale at the fanshop tomorrow at 11am.
