Union rectifies the situation and beats La Louvière

Union won 2-1 at home against La Louvière. In a poor first half, the team fell behind after just 4 minutes following an error by Guilherme. Schoofs equalized for Union just before half-time. In the second half, Union took the initiative and Guilherme scored the decisive goal.

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon at Duden Park. Union hosted La Louvière, second from bottom in the standings. In their last meeting, Union drew 0-0, so they had something to prove. The Brussels side had to do without suspended Burgess and injured Scherpen, who was replaced by Chambaere.

After just 4 minutes, things went wrong for the Brussels team following a defensive error. Gillot beat Patris with a feint and crossed. Guilherme tried to clear it, but sent the ball straight to Afriyie's feet. The Ghanaian only had to tap the ball in: 0-1.

Our Unionists then took offensive control, but didn't immediately create danger. Patris attempted a shot on goal, but La Louvière's goalkeeper Peano punched the ball away. Even on the rebound, Union couldn't break down La Louvière's defensive block.

The greatest threat came from the other side of the pitch. The visitors took the initiative and made good use of the Brussels side's sloppiness, but Chambaere stood firm.

Union's first shot on target only came in the 44th minute from a corner. Zeneli tried a set piece. Patris didn't connect perfectly with the ball, but it flew towards goal. Peano collected the ball on the line.

Just before half-time, Rob Schoofs equalized. Patris was allowed to cross again from the right flank. The ball was first headed away, but Schoofs, well positioned, brought Union level with La Louvière with a long-range shot: 1-1.

Union wanted to continue immediately after the break. After four minutes, it nearly happened. On a corner, Peano first caught the ball during a dive, but dropped it on landing. First David tried to shoot it in, then Zeneli, but his shot was also blocked. Shortly after, David did score, but from an offside position.

Suddenly, David intercepted a clearance from goalkeeper Peano and found himself with a chance to shoot. His first shot was blocked towards substitute Ait El Hadj, but he missed by half a meter with the outside of his foot. Shortly after, Leysen was allowed to shoot on goal. Peano saved, and on the rebound, Mac Allister tried a volley, but also wide.

Then Guilherme tried from distance, but his shot just cleared the bar. From a throw-in, the ball was headed on and fell favorably for the Brazilian. He controlled the ball with two touches, turned and scored his first goal for Union: 2-1. With this liberating goal, he made up for his earlier mistake. In the closing minutes, Zorgane nearly sealed the match completely, but he was offside during the corner.

Our Unionists won at home again, showing resilience. Where they struggled in the first half, they took charge after the break. Guilherme's winning goal after his early mistake completed the comeback.
