Union reaches quarterfinals in added time

Union was not that impressive in Beveren. Only deep into added time did we get to 0-1 via an owngoal and moments later it was 0-2 through Mohammed Amoura.

The first half did not consist of many chances. We noted only shots by Rodriguez and Rasmussen for Union. Then the home team was more threatening. Goncalves kicked the post, Union got away well.

After halftime, there were signs of improvement. Koyalipou, at times a menace to the Union defense, hit the post with a bycicle kick. Another sigh of relief and in fact Beveren deserved to take the lead.

A decisive finale

Just when we thought we were going into extra time, François swerved in a cross front of goal and the ball fell through Beveren defender Bateau into the goal.

So Union got what they wanted in Beveren in the end and even added another via a deflected free kick.

The Unionists creep modestly into the quarterfinals of the Cup. The draw takes place tomorrow night on the Pro League's YouTube channel.
