Union to play European qualifications in Ostende

Since our own Joseph Marien Stadium does not meet UEFA’s requirements for European football, we are once again forced to relocate to another stadium for our European home matches. Subject to final UEFA approval, we will therefore begin our European qualifiers in Ostende.

This fifth consecutive European qualification once again highlights the need for a new stadium for Union. After carefully evaluating all available options, Batimont Solar Park in Ostende emerged as the best candidate to host our Champions League qualifiers. There, we will be able to welcome our supporters, partners, and players under the best conditions for what we hope will mark the start of another successful European campaign. No decision has yet been made regarding the venue for the home matches later in our European campaign.

Union CEO Philippe Bormans: “We are extremely grateful to football club KV Diksmuide Oostende and the city of Ostende for their hospitality. Thanks to them, we can begin our European qualifiers in a stadium that holds fond memories for us, in a city with which Brussels and its people have always maintained a warm connection. While Batimont Solar Park is easily accessible by public transport from Brussels, we are aware that a home match in Ostende presents a logistical challenge for our supporters and partners. We are currently in discussions with various mobility partners to make the journey to Ostende as smooth as possible for everyone. Additionally, we will ensure that ticket prices remain as accessible as possible. Through these initiatives, we hope to welcome as many Union fans as possible to the Belgian coast this summer.”

Ostende Alderwoman Charlotte Verkeyn: “For the city of Ostende, it is fantastic news that European football is coming to Ostende. This is a great example of collaboration between football clubs and the city administration.”
