Union comes back from early deficit to reach Croky Cup quarter-finals

Union secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Croky Cup, despite falling behind early against Zulte Waregem, thanks to goals from Kevin Rodríguez and Promise David.

It was not the start we had hoped for. After a few light attempts from our Unionists, the team quickly fell behind. In the 12th minute, Ujka found the back of the net from a corner for the visitors: 0-1.

The rest of the first half was difficult. Our Unionists had possession, but could not find a way through the opposing defense. Just before halftime, Rodríguez found the goal again, but Zulte Waregem goalkeeper Gabriël saved the ball in two attempts. We went into the break trailing.

The second half began immediately with a huge chance for Zulte Waregem. Vossen was free to storm towards goal, but under pressure from Leysen and goalkeeper Chambaere, he shot wide.

Our Unionists also had opportunities: Rodríguez headed once wide and chipped once over, while Mac Allister tried a bicycle kick. But the score remained unchanged.

It had been coming, and in the 70th minute, our Unionists finally scored. Kevin Rodríguez headed in the equalizer from a corner: 1-1.

The equalizer gave our Unionists wings. Zorgane produced one brilliant action after another, and in the 79th minute, Promise David scored the decisive goal after a beautiful through pass from Zorgane: 2-1.

The final phase was still tense. Opoku missed a huge chance for the visitors, and Ementa also shot wide. The Dudenpark could finally breathe, and our Unionists advanced to the Croky Cup quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals will be played on January 13, 14, or 15. Our opponent will be drawn on Thursday evening, and the exact match date will be announced on December 12.
