Union beaten in Mechelen
Union suffered its first defeat of the season against KV Mechelen.
The first chance went in Mechelen's favor, and Moris had to shine to stop Schoofs' chance. At the other end, Union also responded with half-chances and a good shot from Rasmussen, which went just wide.
Mechelen opened the score after a good attack led by Lauberbach, Schoofs and finally Mrabti. 1-0.
Just before half-time, Union came close to scoring with Puertas seeing his shot hit the crossbar.
At the start of the second half, Union looked much better. Puertas continued to threaten with a shot which, unfortunately, went wide. Union had found a way to contain Mechelen and were looking for ways to equalize. But when Kevin Mac Allister was sidelined for two minutes while waiting for a new shirt (his shirt was covered in bloodstains) and Mechelen took their chance. Storm found Hairemans who scored the second goal of the evening.
Then Belghali made it 3-0. Union continued to suffer until the end and Bates even made it 4-0 with a header from a corner kick.
A painful defeat. Union are yet to win a game at the AFAS stadion since their return to the first division. On Thursday, our European match against Lugano awaits us at the Anderlecht stadium. Tickets are on sale online here and in our fanshop.
