Union battles back and takes point in Ghent

In a top-of-the-range match at the KAA Gent Arena, Gent scored first, but in the second half an improved Union fought their way to 1-1, following a thunderstrike by Puertas.

Gent dominated the first half. Our team had to undergo and could not keep the ball in the team. Tissoudali was able to threaten twice, but Moris did not really have to intervene.

The biggest chance of the first half was for Amoura. That nodded a massive chance across goal. It looked like both teams were going to the dressing room with a scoreless draw. But then Machida slipped and tapped Samoise in the box, penalty kick for Gent and 1-0 via De Sart.

A stronger second half

Union came out for the second half with a different mindset. Cameron Puertas took on the role of orchestra master and directed his team to the 1-1 draw. From the left he fired a shot into the short corner, Roef could not stop the shot.

Union took the upper hand after the equaliser and still had chances. The substitute Rodriguez was a danger for the opposition and Moris made a good save on a Kums shot. But nothing changed in the 1-1 draw.

All eyes now on Toulouse and our Europa League match next Thursday. More than 600 Unionists are already making the trip to Toulouse. Tickets and bus tickets are still on sale at ticketing.rusg.brussels.
