Tim Smolders leaves Union for Schalke 04
Assistant coach Smolders follows ex-Union coach Karel Geraerts to Gelsenkirchen. Smolders has been with at Union since the summer of 2022. He started the current season as one of coach Alexander Blessin's assistants, but now he is moving to German second division side Schalke 04 with immediate effect.
Before coming to Union, Smolders was active in the youth academy of Club Brugge. At Union, he was a member of the technical staff that finished third in the Jupiler Pro League last season and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
After ten games, sitting on top of the league and qualification for group stage Europa League, Smolders bids farewell to the Parc Duden. We wish Tim, and also Karel, the best of luck with their new challenge!
