Pro League competition format: Union refers case to the Belgian Competition Authority

Union Saint-Gilloise believes that several rules were violated regarding the modification of the competition format of the Jupiler Pro League and the Challenger Pro League, as decided during the Pro League General Assembly on 27 February 2025.

Firstly, changing the rules during an ongoing season: the Pro League decided to modify the relegation rules mid-season, at a time when the potential relegated teams were already known.

Secondly, locking U23 teams into the Challenger Pro League goes against the basic principles of sport and a level playing field for all clubs, regardless of their geographical location.

Thirdly, five separate decisions were bundled into a single take-it-or-leave-it proposal, drafted by a small group of clubs (members of the Pro League Board of Directors), without the possibility of voting on them individually.

Union Saint-Gilloise strongly disagrees with this approach and has therefore decided to report the matter to the Belgian Competition Authority.
