KV Mechelen ends Union’s impressive run

It turned out to be a disappointing week, that was the conclusion on Sunday evening around 5:55 PM. After the loss against Ajax, an unrecognizable Union suffered a 0-1 defeat at home.

The Marien Stadium celebrated Koki Machida’s 100th match before kick-off, but after the game started, there was little reason to celebrate. We came closer to scoring than Mechelen (David hit the crossbar), but the visitors were more in control of the match.

That resulted in a goal from Raman after the half-hour mark (0-1).

In the second half, Union tried to turn the tide, but we seemed to be playing with heavy legs.

Ivanović saw two of his attempts denied by a strong Mechelen goalkeeper. Ait El Hadj missed the unmissable, and at that point, you knew scoring just wasn’t meant to be.

Union fell to defeat but will already have a chance to bounce back on Thursday in Amsterdam. After that, the derby against Anderlecht awaits. Want to be there? Contact one of our fan clubs here.
