Hammer blow for Union against Cercle

It became 1-3 at Duden Park for our first home defeat of the season. Union is sliding down the standings. Wednesday follows an important cup game in Eupen.

After the impressive tribute to Samir before kick-off, the match got underway after eight minutes. After a triple shot from Ivanovic, Terho and finally Fuseini, it was a hit. 1-0 for Union!

We continued to create chances. Mac Allister headed over on corner kick. Waiting for minute 36, Fuseini rashly popped wide one-on-one with Cercle's goalkeeper.

From bad to worse

After half-time, Cercle came out of the dressing room stronger. Augusto managed the equaliser after a clever attack. 1-1. And things went from bad to worse. Cercle turned the situation around on corner kicks, 1-2.

A sledgehammer blow, but Union continued to push. Chances were there again. David banged against the crossbar. Khalaili came just too late to tap in. Knocking on the gate it was. But it did not open. On the other side, the door did open, Denkey was able to go off alone on Moris in minute 96, 1-3.

Union must recover Am Kehrweg against Eupen for the cup on Wednesday.
