Duden Park dances after derby win and a perfect 9 out of 9
Union kicks off the Champions’ Play-offs with three straight victories. After beating Anderlecht 2-0 in Forest, a crucial clash awaits this Easter Sunday in Genk against the league leaders.
Can Union do it? Make the best start to the Champions’ Play-offs since our return to the top flight? The answer: yes.
The start was dominant. Union pressed high and hard for the first 15 minutes, forcing Anderlecht to hang on and gradually restore balance in a fierce Brussels derby.
Until just before half-time, when Promise ‘Tobi’ David turned a poor touch from Ait El Hadj into the breakthrough goal with a slick spin and finish.
After the break, less fireworks, less pressure. Few chances, more of a chess match. Until, once again near the end, substitute Castro-Montes snuck past Augustinsson with a bit of luck and set up Ait El Hadj for the 2-0.
Efficient — that’s what we’ve been in these play-offs, and that’s what we’ll need to stay.
Because can Union do it? Win in Genk this season, in the lion’s den of the league leaders? The answer: this Sunday at the Cegeka Arena.
