Clinical Ajax leaves Union facing a two-goal deficit
Ajax secured a 0-2 victory at the Heysel and now holds the best chances of reaching the Round of 16. Union played strongly before halftime but was knocked out after the break by two flashes of brilliance from Amsterdam.
Before the break, Union had two goals disallowed, both times due to a narrow offside by Promise David. Ajax, on the other hand, saw a shot cleared off the line in extremis by a strong Sadiki.
After halftime, Ajax took control. Winger Rasmussen finished off a brilliant attack for the visitors (0-1).
Shortly after, in the 71st minute, Mokio doubled the lead, reacting best to a corner kick (0-2).
Union threatened a few more times with half-chances but now faces the challenge of fighting back from an almost lost position next Thursday. And that’s something we know we can do. Allez l'Union !
