Union too strong for Sint-Truiden with 0-3 victory

After beating Anderlecht 3-0 last week, Union have now defeated Sint-Truiden by the same scoreline. The Brussels side took the lead after 20 minutes through Patris, before Mac Allister and Mofokeng sealed the victory after the break.

At Stayen, Union had to make up their third league fixture due to their European qualifying campaign. Sint-Truiden made the brighter start and managed to break through the Brussels defence twice. Following a quick combination, the ball was worked out wide to Diouf. Fortunately for Union, Patris managed to clear the danger. Shortly afterwards, Vanwesemael got past Zorgane too easily and delivered a cross. Goalkeeper Koffi read the situation well and intercepted the ball.

Patris provides the danger

The visitors responded and Zorgane switched play with a long cross-field ball towards the right flank. Patris made a run into space but failed to control the ball in his stride and was forced to shoot with his left foot. His effort flew into the side-netting.

In the 22nd minute, Union finally took the lead through the same Patris. Guilherme and Zorgane combined down the left flank before finding Biondic. The German midfielder played a perfectly weighted pass through to Patris, who this time made no mistake with his left foot: 0-1.

Union wanted to extend their lead further. Just a few minutes later, the Brussels side threatened again. Zeneli spotted an opening and looked to get his shot away, but the Swede's effort was blocked.

Sint-Truiden continued to drop deeper and did not threaten again until the 35th minute. Sebaoui picked out Araki, who tried to take on Mac Allister, but the Japanese forward could not get past the Argentine defender. The danger was once again dealt with.

Just before half-time, Biondic missed a huge opportunity to double Union's lead. He slipped the ball through the defender's legs and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper in a central position, but he fired his shot well over the bar.

Mac Allister and Mofokeng extend the lead

Union were too strong for Sint-Truiden in the second half. Just 10 minutes after the restart, the visitors doubled their advantage. Captain Mac Allister found the right position from a free-kick and bundled the ball into the net. The assistant referee initially flagged for offside, but VAR overturned the decision: 0-2.

On the hour mark, the Brussels side put the game beyond doubt. After a fine combination between Zorgane, Biondic and Mofokeng, the young South African finished superbly into the bottom-right corner: 0-3.

Sint-Truiden were still given an opportunity to score a consolation goal. Sebaoui worked himself free inside the box, but Koffi kept out his shot. Bazdar then had a second chance with an open goal in front of him, but his effort struck his own teammate Sebaoui.

Next Sunday, Union will take on unbeaten league leaders Charleroi.
