Union celebrates 100 years of the West Stand

The West Stand was officially inaugurated on 29 August.

The West Stand of the Joseph Marien Stadium celebrates its 100th anniversary today. In the presence of Prince Charles, a match against FC Dordrecht was played there at the time.

From the outset, the West Stand was an impressive structure in Belgian and international football, featuring its grandstand terrace, seven unique bas-reliefs on the façade and remarkable stained-glass windows. Over the century that followed, the stand and the rest of the stadium grew into an icon of international football. Football enthusiasts from all over the world come to visit this historic stand, which has since also been officially listed as protected heritage.
