Union beat H. Beer Sheva
A 4-0 victory in a match played behind closed doors.
The first half was far from spectacular in an empty Düsseldorf Arena. The visitors had the first chance of the game, but Koffi came to the rescue twice. Union then threatened through Patris and a header from Biondic. Unfortunately, injuries forced Biondic and Olaru off the pitch. Biondic’s replacement, Raul, immediately made his presence felt with a volley.
As half-time approached, Union stepped up the pressure. Raul threatened twice, but his first effort was saved by the goalkeeper, while his next shot was blocked by a defender. Not long afterwards, Raul made another dangerous move inside the opposition penalty area and was brought down. The Austrian stepped up himself and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom-left corner. That proved to be the half-time score.
After the break, Union once again took complete control of the game. Following a sustained period of pressure, Guilherme cut inside and unleashed a shot just after the hour mark. The ball took a deflection off an opponent and found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Union remained in control, with Hapoel Beer Sheva rarely able to threaten. In the 75th minute, Aquino was fortunate to regain possession as he entered the penalty area before firing an emphatic shot into the net to make it 3-0.
And there was still more to come. Rodriguez returned to action after several weeks out with injury, coming on alongside academy player Tshilanda and De Roeve. The latter immediately provided the assist for Guilherme’s second goal of the night, sealing a 4-0 victory.
