Union is B Corp

Union Saint-Gilloise is recognised as a B Corp. This means that Union achieves rigorous social and environmental standards in its various industries, rather than just pursuing profits for its shareholders. The club is proud of this recognition and is one of 7,000 companies worldwide (!) that is a B Corporation.

The B Corp certification covers all activities of a company and has five main pillars: governance, employees, community, environment and customers.

The certification process is rigorous: applicants must achieve a benchmark score of 80 points and must be able to demonstrate socially and environmentally responsible operations in the areas of energy supply, waste and water consumption, employee compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. Royale Union Saint-Gilloise scored 88 points.

Raphaele Moeremans, Head of Sustainability, Union SG:

This is a historic achievement by the whole of our organisation. With this, we prove that Union is more than just football. We are taking on the role of a sustainable pioneer in football and will continue to build the club in a responsible manner for all its stakeholders and the planet every day.

Tessa van Soest, director of B Lab Benelux:

We are hugely excited to welcome Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to the B Corp community. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business so that it is as much about people and the planet as it is about profit.
