Swedish metronome Besfort Zeneli signs for Union

Zeneli (23) joins Union with immediate effect from Swedish side Elfsborg. The Swedish international (5 caps) has signed a contract with Union until June 2030.

Central midfielder Zeneli came through the youth ranks at Elfsborg, where he enjoyed an outstanding season in 2021 with the U19s, captaining the side and scoring 19 goals in 16 matches.

He made his Allsvenskan debut in September 2022. In 2024, he fully broke through into Elfsborg’s first team, and last season he regularly wore the captain’s armband. Elfsborg finished 8th last season. In total, Zeneli made 93 appearances for his former club, scoring 5 goals and providing 15 assists.

Welcome to the champions of Belgium, welcome to Union, Besfort!

After my first conversation with Union’s management, I immediately called my agent to tell him that I wanted to join this club. It’s a family club at the highest level.

Good to know

  • Zeneli holds dual Kosovar-Swedish nationality. He played for Kosovo at U21 level, but chose to represent Sweden at senior level. He made his debut for the Swedish national team on 22/03/2025 against Luxembourg, captained by Anthony Moris.

  • His brother Arbër (30) also came through the ranks at Elfsborg and, after spells at Heerenveen, Reims and Demirspor, is now back at the club. Arbër chose to represent the Kosovo national team, earning 33 caps.

  • Zeneli will wear the number 23 shirt at Union, previously worn by Sofiane Boufal and Cameron Puertas.
