As you are aware, in addition to being an investor in Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Tony Bloom is the chairman and majority owner of English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Following the qualification of both Union and Brighton for the 2023-2024 UEFA Europa League competition, questions were raised regarding the participation in the same competition by two teams connected to Tony, bearing in mind UEFA’s Competitions Regulations regarding multi-club ownership and competition participation, which are a necessary and important tool in ensuring the integrity of all UEFA competitions.

On the basis of these regulations, it became clear that certain changes needed to be made to the ownership structure of Union in order to ensure compliance with the UEFA Competitions Regulations, and to enable both teams to compete in the Europa League next season.

As a result, I have now become the majority owner of Union, increasing my investment in the club, with Tony’s ownership share in the club reducing to a minority stake.

The project that was launched back in 2018 to revitalise Union and make it a strong and sustainable force again in Belgian football remains as solid as ever. The vision for the club remains the same and the new stadium remains a real target for the club in the coming years. Meanwhile, next season, we are looking forward to European club competition participation once again and to mounting another challenge in the Belgian Pro League.

It has been the honour of my life to serve the fans at Union over the last five years, during which time we have begun the process to restore this beautiful club to where it belongs. However, the work is far from complete and I look forward with vigour to the challenges ahead for us. I have lived and breathed Union since becoming President and I cannot wait to continue this journey in my new, additional, position of majority owner.
