For the third consecutive season, Union has reached the quarterfinals of the Croky Cup. The draw will take place on December 5 around 11 PM. The match started with a flying pace, setting the tone for what turned out to be an open contest. It’s unfortunate that no TV broadcaster was present to show this game live to the home audience.
Sadiki intercepted the ball and set up Mo Fuseini, who outplayed Mitrovic and perfectly teed up Promise David to make it 1-0 after just 15 minutes.
Union could have extended the lead, but David missed the chance to pass the ball to Fuseini during a one-on-one with goalkeeper Schmidt.
Before halftime, Gent leveled the score. A brilliant pass from Delorge was expertly finished by Dean. 1-1 at the break.
The spectacle continued in the second half. Fuseini scored following a great ball recovery by David, though there was a hint of offside. Union pressed forward and produced a delightful team goal. Starting from the back and involving 7-8 passes, Gent was completely outplayed as David scored his second goal, again assisted by Fuseini, for 3-1.
Gent quickly reduced the deficit to 3-2 with a header from Gandelman off a corner kick, leaving half an hour to play. The home side created more chances, but Gent also posed a threat to Moris’ goal.
n the dying moments, Kevin ‘La Rola’ Rodriguez had a golden opportunity to make it 4-2. However, after some excellent buildup play, he failed to finish it off.
Union progresses in the cup. After a European victory, a Pro League win against Antwerp, and a cup triumph over Gent, the team now heads to Cercle Brugge on Sunday.
