Kjell Scherpen completes transfer to Ipswich Town FC

After one season at Union, Scherpen is making the move to the Premier League. Our Dutch goalkeeper is therefore closing the door of the Marien, having made 43 appearances, including 21 clean sheets, while also winning the Belgian Cup and being named Goalkeeper of the Year.

Scherpen joined Union in the summer of 2025 from Austrian side Sturm Graz. The 2.06-metre goalkeeper quickly established himself as the final piece of Belgium's strongest defence, finishing the 2025/26 Jupiler Pro League season with the most clean sheets in the competition.

During his time at Union, Scherpen added the Belgian Cup to his list of honours and now takes the next step in his career with a move to the Premier League. He has signed for newly promoted Ipswich Town FC.

Union would like to thank Kjell for his commitment and dedication, as well as for his important contribution to a successful and memorable season.

Good luck in the Premier League, Kjell. We look forward to welcoming you back at Union one day!
