Historic Champions League debut in Eindhoven! PSV - Union: 1-3

Even the wildest dreams have been surpassed. Union stunned PSV on their Champions League debut. The goals came from Promise, Ait El Hadj (a beauty!), and Mac Allister. The Belgian champions defeated the Dutch champions 1-3.

Who would’ve thought? That’s a rhetorical question, we know. No one. Before 10 minutes had even passed, Promise David made it 0-1 from the penalty spot. It was Burgess who took a knock to the knee, prompting the referee to point to the spot early on.

PSV wasn’t rattled. Van Bommel struck the crossbar hard, and just before that, the same Van Bommel junior nearly set up Saibari for the opener. But look, Union held on, and so it was 0-1 after that penalty from Promise David, our very first Champions League goal.

Then, minute 39: a sea of space for Anouar Ait El Hadj after an intervention by Mac Allister. Anou glided smoothly through the defense and elegantly placed the ball into the net. 0-2. Yes, 0-2!

After the break, Union threatened right away, Rodriguez came close to scoring a third, but PSV took control of the match for a good 15 minutes. However: without creating major chances. And just when the home side's spirits were visibly sinking, Rasmussen delivered a corner that twisted the knife even deeper. Rodriguez flicked it on, and Mac Allister headed it in. Celebration in the away section! And PSV’s consolation goal changed nothing.

Union wins 1-3 in Eindhoven on their Champions League debut. It’s real. Now, all eyes turn to Sunday: Genk - Union. Tickets and bus passes are available at ticketing.rusg.brussels
