Forward Mateo Biondic joins Union

Centre-forward Mateo Biondic is 22 years old, stands 1.90m tall and joins from German fourth-division side SV Eintracht Trier. With the club from the Moselle city, he recorded 7 goals and 5 assists in 17 matches during the first half of the season. Biondic has signed a contract with Union until June 2030.

Biondic came through the youth ranks of his hometown club Lemgo before moving to Hannover 96 in 2015. He later also played for Schalke and Paderborn. In 2022, he signed his first professional contract with third-division side SC Verl, who then loaned him out to Trier for two seasons.
 

In the 2023–2024 season, Mateo earned promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest with Trier. During his first two seasons, he suffered some injury setbacks at times, but still managed to score 13 goals and provide 9 assists.

This season, Biondic has established himself as Eintracht Trier’s attacking leader, once again tallying 7 goals and 5 assists in his first 17 matches of the current campaign.

  • Biondic holds dual German and Croatian nationality. He previously played together with former Union striker and champion Franjo Ivanović in a Croatian youth national team.
     

  • Mateo is also a youth coach at his former club Eintracht Trier.
     

  • Biondic’s parents run a restaurant in Lemgo, his hometown, where Mateo helps out during busy periods, most recently during the end-of-year holidays.
     

  • His favourite dish at the restaurant is the meat speciality Ćevapčići.
