Air Burgey keeps Union flying high in the Play-offs cockpit
After Genk’s Bangoura was shown a second yellow card, Burgess soared above everyone like he always does and headed it home. 1-0 — enough to seal the win! Next stop: the derby, this Saturday at the Astrid Park.
There were two major chances in the first half. One early on for Genk captain Heynen, but he blasted it over. And one for Union, with Ivanovic finding the side netting. Just before that, Promise David had missed a penalty — his very first miss.
Luckily, it didn’t prove costly, thanks to Christian Burgess. Not only did he win practically every duel against top scorer Tolu, he also scored the winner from a Vanhoutte corner. 1-0, just as Genk went down to ten men after Bangoura’s second yellow.
Union had chances to extend the lead but held on to secure the win!
Saturday brings the final Brussels derby of the season. Allez l’Union!
