Union SG – Zulte Waregem: 4-0
After a physical and tactical battle against Antwerp, it was Zulte Waregem who came to visit the Joseph Marien Stadium this weekend. Before kick-off, Dante Vanzeir was greeted one last time by our supporters. Christian Burgess was playing his 100th game for the Union while Yorbe Vertessen joined the starting eleven for the first time.
The Unionists started the match strongly, with a strong Impression from our new number 18. Cameron Puertas scored in the 9th minute after a precise assist from Vertessen, 1-0. During the following 15 minutes, Union were dominating and used the spaces perfectly. Vertessen then perfectly placed the ball to his teammate Boniface to make it 2-0, but the Nigerian failed to capitalize on the chance. Before half-time, Zulte Waregem tried to respond, but both teams returned to the locker room at 1-0.
The story of the match did not change after the break. Christian Burgess and his defense had a quiet evening. Yorbe Vertessen felt the time was right for his second assist of the game and Victor Boniface managed to double the score this time around. The whole stadium stood and applauded the performance of our new number 18 when he made way for Gustaf Nilsson in the 65th minute. The Swede didn’t take long though, and about ten minutes after he came on, he wrapped up the game to make it 3-0. For Gustaf, it was his fourth goal in four games. And speaking of four, Teddy Teuma ended the game with a power shot from outside the box, 4-0.
We will play our next game on Friday at the Jan Breydel Stadium against Club Brugge. Tickets and bus tickets are available from our fan clubs, all information is available on our website.
Allez l’Union !
