Union SG – Union Berlin : 0-1

The Unionist European campaign could have ended perfectly if we won or drew against Union Berlin. Qualification and first place was already secured after last week’s victory, the goal was to remain undefeated in the Europa League.

Just after only 5 minutes of play, Sven Michel opened up the scoring which was a great start for the Berliners. Despite everything, USG obtained small chances in the first period through Kandouss in particular, who was close to deflecting Teuma’s corner into the back of the net. The biggest chance of all came from Adingra, although it would have been called for offside.

The game remained balanced throughout the second half. Nieuwkoop was close to equalizing with a beautiful volley but was blocked by Berlin’s Lennart Grill. At the other end of the field, Moris was forced to keep his team in the game by making several fine saves. In the absolute last minutes, Boniface was still close to scoring his 4th goal of the competition but his shot was blocked by a Berlin defender.

Union suffered their first defeat in the Europa League, but can above all rejoice in a successful European campaign with great moments. Our Unionists will resume competition in the round of 16 in March.
