Union SG – RSC Anderlecht: 2-1
A great fifth derby victory! The Brussels derby did not disappoint last Sunday evening. It was the 49th confrontation between Union Saint-Gilles and RSC Anderlecht. The Unionists had won the last 4 confrontations prior to this fixture.
Union Saint-Gilloise started the match with a very strong rhythm and it paid off. After only three minutes, Victor Boniface scored the early opener 1-0 to mark his first goal for Union SG, and what an important one!
Anderlecht didn’t seem to back down, although the pressure was intense from our Unionists. Just before the quarter-hour mark, Michael Murillo equalized for the mauves.
The Unionists then increased the pressure and provided the biggest chance of the first half, as Dante Vanzeir put us ahead at the half-hour mark. 2-1 at the break!
The second half began explosively, then ten minutes before the end of the match, the referee called for a penalty due to a foul by Christian Burgess, but this decision was overturned by the VAR.
Exciting and intense moments towards the end of the game, however, the score remained the same nevertheless as this Brussels derby came to a conclusion. Final score 2-1.
Allez Union!

“It’s always great to score a goal against Anderlecht. I’m happy to have been useful. It was important to keep our momentum going after the game against Kortrijk. As a striker, I hadn’t scored for a long time. The last goal in open play was against Anderlecht in the playoff last season. It was an important match and we connected with Boniface. We will make a good duo this season.”
Dante Vanzier
“I think Union is a great club. I’m happy to have scored. It was important to score this goal quickly in this Brussels derby.”
