A return to the European Cup after 58 years of absence is something to celebrate!
In the first quarter of an hour, Rangers took control and pushed Union back into their own box, with a few missed opportunities. Little by little, our pride of Brussels managed to regain possession and resist the Scottish assaults. Just before half an hour mark, Teddy Teuma saw the ball arrive at his feet and didn’t question himself as he smashed the ball to score the first goal of the match 1-0. With this advantage, Union kept their possession and were able to dominate the finalists of the last Europa League. In the second half, we controlled the game by taking several attacking chances. Union eventually took advantage of a Scottish handball after the referee had to consult the VAR. Dante Vanzeir stepped up converted the penalty for 2-0 as it set the Den Dreef into turmoil! The Scottish had nothing left to give which gives Union an advantage for their return to the Ibrox! After this victory, we keep the charge! This Saturday evening, we head off to Mechelen for the third fixture of the championship, before flying to Glasgow and facing Rangers there next Tuesday for the return match that promises to be thrilling!
