Union SG – OH Leuven : 1-0

After a difficult evening at the Jan Breydel stadium, Union faced OH Leuven. The Louvanists were deprived of their top scorer Gonzalez, but still wanted to give a good performance at Duden Park. A thrilling start to the game!

Patris began the offensive by testing Moris early on from a pass by Schrijvers, but Moris’ fingertips just stopped the shot. Boniface produced a counter-offensive for the home team, but Ricca’s leg prevented it from going in. After 15 minutes, both teams kicked into a higher gear. Boniface again created danger for the opposing team and Union were able to secure the best chances for the majority of the match. Just before half-time, another chance arose for OHL through Patris, whose shot went wide over the top. It was a surprising 0-0 at halftime.

After half-time, either side could have scored to break the deadlock. Thorsteinsson missed the chance to open the scoring for the visitors as he failed to get his shot on target. A little after the hour mark, Karel Geraerts brought Loïc Lapoussin onto the field and this replacement would prove to be profitable. Fifteen minutes before the end, he placed the ball perfectly on the head of our Swedish striker, Gustaf Nilsson, who capitalized on this wonderful cross and gave our Unionists the advantage, 1-0 (77′). Ten minutes later, Patris tried to equalize as he hit the crossbar that saved Union for the time being. Six minutes from the end, there was perhaps still something up for grabs for the Louvanists, but Union carried out the game nicely. The match ended in victory and we are now 6 points behind the leaders Genk, with a game in hand.

The next match will take place on Saturday 28/01 (8:45 p.m.) at the Stade du Pays against Charleroi.
