Union SG – Malmö FF : 3-2
Our second game of the group stage was played at home and we wanted to finish the game with three points after a perfect first game in Berlin. Mission accomplished. Burgess, Teuma, and Boniface gave us a tremendous night and a second Europa League victory.
The Unionists did not start the match as they did against Union Berlin. We were behind from the get-go due to an early goal by Joseph Ceesay. And yet Union dominated the match in the first half. Senne Lynen, who scored the winning goal in Berlin, saw his shot go just over the bar.
Teuma, who provided most of the threat with his sharp crosses, found no end. We had to wait until the end of the first quarter of an hour to see Burgess head in a cross from our captain into the back of the net. The game was restarted! (1-1).
The first half ends as the home supporters shout for their team in a celebratory fashion (1-1).
The start of the second half was marked by a few ups and downs. Malmö didn’t have any big chances and couldn’t create any danger, the chances were in favor of the home team who went for a second goal.
Union couldn’t capitalize on their chances, and unfortunately, just before the hour mark, the goal went to the visitors. Isaak Thelin restored the advantage for Malmö. A disappointment for the Unionists!
The home side stepped up the pressure and with 20 minutes to go, Burgess managed to intercept the ball and sent Teuma towards goal. The captain blasted a 20-meter shot to make it 2-2 for the home team. The Unionists began to feel that something was possible. Less than 3 minutes later, Boniface infiltrated well on the left of the 16-yard box to give Union their first lead in an unrivaled fashion.
Thus, Union maintains a perfect record and experienced a great European evening in Louvain! On October 6th, we will travel to Portugal to face SC Braga.
Allez l’Union !

This victory is beautiful. It was complicated to pick up with a difficult start against opponents who really wanted to win. But the three points were the most important thing.
Union had no doubts… but being down 3-2 is not easy. We did it. This European campaign is well launched. 6 out of 6 is a great start. We are not at home but the supporters were present. Thanks!

I would have preferred that the game was less dramatic, but we are very proud to win this match, especially in the Europa League, without forgetting where we come from. I would have liked us to be disciplined in defense.
The Equalizer (2-2) I scored is very important for the mentality. I believe that with this victory, we were able to free ourselves and win the game.
Teddy Teuma
We are happy. But we had a lot of trouble getting into the game… we had possibilities but we didn’t manage to materialize all our opportunities. But we did. I am pleased. On the other hand, with the goals we conceded, we had problems in defense. We will have to improve for our next matches.
