Union SG – KVC Westerlo: 1-1
Union Saint-Gilloise rose to third place in the league table after Club Brugge’s defeat against AA Gent. This week, the Kemphanen came to visit the Stade Marien for our last home match before the international break!
The home side came out the blocks with a fierce start with a lot of dominance in very wet conditions. Union tried to impose their game and quickly open up the score. Boniface and Vanzeir were the most dangerous for the Unionists but could not challenge goalkeeper Bolat. At the other end of the pitch, Westerlo had a good chance but went just wide of the post. Both teams didn’t have many opportunities and it seemed that the half would finish 0-0. However, just before half-time, Foster came face to face with Moris and he managed to put his team in front, 0-1 (45′).
Union went into the dressing room with a so feeling, but came after the break with more threat and played more in the opponent’s half. We created some good opportunities through Boniface, Vanzeir, and Adingra but not a single shot was able to go in between the posts. It fell to the substitutes again to salvage something from the match. Sykes headed the ball through and Nilsson chipped the ball over Bolat to equalize in the dying seconds of the match, 1-1 (90+2).
This draw means that USG finishes the weekend in third place above Club Brugge.
Our next fixture will take place in and against FC Cappellen for the Croky Cup on Wednesday the 9th of November (8 pm).
