Union SG – KV Mechelen : 2-1
For the last fixture before the short international break, KV Mechelen visited the Stade Joseph Marien. After a victory in Genk and against Union Berlin in the Europa League, our Unionists wanted to end the week well. Ross Sykes replaced Christian Burgess, who is suspended for two matches.
KV Mechelen did not want to make it easy for Union. Three minutes into the game, the visitors made a quick counter attack and Ngoy won his duel with Moris to score the opener, 1-0 for KVM. Fortunately, our Unionists respond quickly. Loïc Lapoussin, given a standing ovation before kick-off in honor of his 100 matches in yellow and blue, blasted a shot from outside the box to acquire an early equalizer (1-1). Two goals in two matches for our winger. 1-1 at halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, Senne Lynen received the ball on the left wing and dribbled it into the box where he was fouled by the Malinois Birger Verstraete. Teddy Teuma gave Union the lead from the penalty spot, 2-1. Moments later, Bart Nieuwkoop hit the post with a clever volley. Thereafter, the game was still dominated by our Unionists. Simon Adingra and Loïc Lapoussin had chances to score (again), but the game ended 2-1.
Due to the international break, our next match will be on April 2nd against STVV at Stade Marien. But those who can’t live without USG are invited to come to Duden Park on Saturday March 25th to cheer on our RUSG Girls. They will celebrate their title of champions at Marien, kick-off at 1 p.m.!
Allez l’Union !
