Union SG – FC Cartagena : 3-0
On Easter Monday, Union finished their duties abroad in the province of Alicante with a friendly match against Cartagena.
It didn’t take too long to see our Unionists show off against the Spanish second-division side. After a few minutes, Dante Vanzeir opened up the scoring from an assist by Guillaume François’.
The match was very tactical, which did not allow the two teams to create many chances. In the second half, a completely overhauled Union restarted with a bang and widened the gap. Before the hour mark, Alex Millán and Kacper Kozlowski added their names to the score sheet to make it 3-0. Kaoru Mitoma, Millàn, and Casper Nielsen all had chances to score again but could not find the back of the net.
This Tuesday, our boys will once again set foot on Belgian soil to prepare, from Wednesday, for our home game against Anderlecht on Sunday. This match will be the first of the 2022 Champions’ Play-Offs!

Dante Vanzeir, scorer of the first goal of the match.
“It’s fun to score, but it’s only a friendly game. I hope to be decisive in the Champions’ Play-Offs, that’s the main thing and that’s what we’re preparing for here in Spain.
We tried some tactical aspects today, the goal was not to win or play our best game. Our opponent had some qualities, after a few days of intensive training and the heat, we can be satisfied! »
Siebe Van der Heyden played the entire second half.
“I think it was a great decision from the staff to come here. The pitches are perfect, the weather conditions are ideal, we have the sun, we are all together as a team… for me, it’s a total success!
Regarding the match, we scored three goals, against a team that played good football and came out well at times. Our pressing was good, and we remembered to be positive for the Play-Offs.´ which are fast approaching! »
An irreproachable attitude for Felice Mazzu.
“I am very satisfied with several points: we did not concede any goals, we scored three and we could widen the gap further, but above all by the attitude of the group and the work done.
The players wanted to replicate what we worked on this week.
The fatigue is there when leaving the course. Everyone had the opportunity to show themselves and give their all before starting the Play-Offs. »
