Union SG – Club Brugge : 2-2

Last season, Union Saint-Gilloise didn’t score a single goal against visitors Club Brugge, the team wanted to change that this season. In a jam-packed Joseph Marien, the Unionists hosted the Club, who were both on equal points in the league table.

After just 30 seconds, Skov Olsen opened up the scoring, as the Dane sent the ball into the top corner. Union SG had to chase from behind after only 1 minute of play, but they did not let themselves be disheartened and attacked hard. Vanzeir was able to force his way down the right wing but his shot fired wide.

Before Vanzeir’s attack, Adingra knocked Buchanan down in the penalty area. The referee had to look back at the foul for a few minutes using VAR. Van Damme decided on a red card and penalty for the people of Brugge, as Vanaken converted the penalty, and Union were reduced to ten men for the next 75 minutes.

Karel Geraerts then launched Lapoussin onto the pitch in place of Sykes and he proved to be invaluable in the second half. Burgess reduced the defecit after half an hour and set Duden Park on fire. Then in the second half, 10 minutes from time, Lapoussin sent in another cross. Bart Nieuwkoop took it back and equalized with a header. An explosion in the Stade Joseph Marien. The Unionists continued to push in search of the 3 points, but the score remained at 2-2.

The Unionists’ next game is on Thursday, October 27th at 6:45 p.m. in Malmö, Sweden.
