Union SG – AA Gent : 4-0
It was time for La Gantoise to visit the Stade Joseph Marien for the quarter-finals of the Croky Cup. The buffaloes wanted, like the Unionists, their place in the semi-finals. For Union, Machida made a long-awaited start as Nilsson replaced Vanzeir.
Union proved themselves and controlled the game early on. After only 5 minutes, Nilsson was completely alone as he converted Adingra’s corner and opened the scoring with a header, 1-0 (4′). Immediately after, Depoitre managed to threaten the Union defense but Moris was attentive to avoid the equalizer. The Unionists quickly manage to double the score with Lazare in the 34th minute. 2-0. Before the break, Boniface managed to extend the lead even further by scoring the third goal after a face-to-face with Nardy.
The victory was in sight. After the break, despite a drop in intensity, the Ghent squad couldn’t pull themselves together to cause any threats. Lazare added insult to injury in extra time by scoring his second goal of the evening, 4-0 (90+3′).
Karel Geraerts’ group qualified with conviction for the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup, the draw for which takes place on Friday at 12 noon.
The next match for our Unionists is Sunday 15/01 (6.30 p.m.), at home against Antwerp.
