Sporting Charleroi – Union SG : Interviews

Guillaume François came on late in the game to defend the lead. “We have had very good times here in Charleroi with Damien in particular, we experienced it together and we received a superb welcome. The two goals we scored in the first half gave us a mental boost at the right times. Then, with ten men, we continued to play with our philosophy: Defend as a team and come out on the counter to score 0-3 by Alex. It is important that Alex is well-ridden and that he scores, he has given 200% in training since his arrival. We are all happy for him! »

Damien Marcq found a starting place: “Tonight, Union showed that we had character and that we knew how to get back on our feet after that poor performance last week. We had the wind behind us during the first half, it was positive and we scored two goals to make the break. Dante’s red card was damaging. He tried to get rid of the marking man and it didn’t end well for him. But we still have to review that and talk about it as a team. »

Lazare Amani doubled the lead before halftime.

“We started well with two goals in the first half and they were good when you see the rest of the game played out. I’m super happy to have scored, thanks to that we made the break. All week, I had the feeling that I was going to score, I was talking about it with my family… So I am all the happier to have scored this goal. After last week, we had to react and it’s done. Today I am a Union player, I defend Union and we are having a wonderful season. If I did not celebrate, it was out of respect for the Charleroi supporters. Their welcome was great and I did not want to offend them. »

Felice Mazzù saw the reaction he wanted.

“I have come out of this match with a good impression, both in terms of the result and the manner. We didn’t leave much to Charleroi, we managed some good combination plays in the first half. We did the right thing with 11 v 11 … and then we did the right thing with 10 v 11, even being able to produce a third goal on a good transition of play. The victory is well deserved. We knew coming to Charleroi would be difficult, against a team that is well established and difficult to handle. »
