Our Unionists end 2022 in second place

For the second time in the space of five days, our Unionists welcomed KV Ostend to the Stade Joseph Marien. After winning their Croky Cup match (2-1), Union wanted to do it again and finish the year with 3 points.

In a sold-out Stade Marien, this boxing day match started at a fast pace with opportunities at both ends of the field. But despite various chances, no goals scored and the players returned to the locker room with a draw. 0-0 at the break. Returning from the locker room, Union pushed forward as they began to dominate the field. Less than five minutes after the start of the second half, the referee pointed to the penalty spot due to a defensive clash with Lazare Amani. Capi’ Teddy Teuma didn’t hesitate and opened up the scoring, 1-0. (51′)

The Unionists did not stop there and continued to dominate. The possession was eventually rewarded just after the hour mark, Simon Adingra made a superb break after a good collective action and a nicely placed assist from Victor Boniface. 2-0 (63′)

As the game began to wind down, Dante Vanzeir decided to end the year in the best possible way by scoring the last goal of 2022 from a Capi’ Teddy assist.

Our Unionists will therefore finish the year second in the Jupiler Pro League. Now it’s time for a few days of rest for them. The championship will resume on January 8th, 2023 with a derby against Anderlecht at Lotto Park.
