We had a very complicated evening at the AFAS Stadium. Our Unionists got off to a bad start which allowed KV Mechelen to prevail.
Shortly before half-time, the home team opened up the scoring with a stroke of luck. A deflected ball passes Moris and goes straight into the net. Shortly after, Ziani misses an excellent opportunity for the possible equalizer. It finished 1-0 at the break.
As the second half resumed, things suddenly accelerated. First, a free kick was converted by a header to make it 2-0 and a few minutes later it was Ngoy’s turn to score to add to the lead to make it 3-0. Our Unionists were stagnating and showing no response. Karel Geraerts decided to make a triple substitution. Very quickly, Dony and Salah seized their chances. Dony hit the bar, Salah was blocked by goalkeeper Coucke. The final score, 3-0 and now our Unionists will have to concentrate on their next match which will take place on Tuesday against Rangers in Glasgow.

“Just before half-time, we were unlucky to concede the goal. Back from the locker room, we conceded two quick goals and it was over. We couldn’t find the right solutions, so we need to improve quickly. We can’t start the game like that on Tuesday”.
“You can lose, but not like this. We gave away the victory too easily. We tried to put things right at half-time, but then we conceded two goals too easily. It’s a blow, but we have to get it in working order for Tuesday”.
