A quiet week of football for most of our Union players, but not for Anthony Moris, Teddy Teuma, and Arnaud Dony. The boys have been called up to the Luxembourg, Malta, and Belgium U19 national teams.
Arnaud Dony was a starter and captained Belgium’s U19 game against Albania on Wednesday. It is their first qualifying group stage match for the U19 European Championships, which will be held in Malta next year. Dony helped his team to a fine 3-1 victory against Albania. Belgium are now top of the group, but second place Spain have a game in hand.
Our captain, Teddy Teuma, had to travel to Estonia with Malta for a Nations League game. A red card for the Maltese at the end of the first half forced them to play with 10 men for 45 minutes. A penalty was converted by the Estonians, but soon after Teuma also scored a penalty. The match ended in a 2-1 for Estonia, but Malta remains second in their group for now.
Anthony Moris had to go to Istanbul, where Turkey awaited him for a Nations League match. It was a dream start to the match for the Luxembourgers who took the lead 0-1 after 8 minutes. At 85 minutes, the match seemed like it was going to end in 2-3 win for the visitors, however, a late Turkish equalizer put a stop to that. Luxembourg return home with a point, which is a good away result despite everything for Anthony and his team.
