Club Brugge – Union SG : 1-1

On Friday evening, our Unionists traveled to Brugge for a game against Club at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Since their promotion to D1A, Union have yet to win against Club Brugge, a series that coach Geraerts and his troops wanted to put an end to.

Club Brugge started the game with a bang, with Noa Lang hitting the post in the third minute. The home team dominated the first part of the game. However, our Unionists managed to open up the scoring in the 24th minute. Nieuwkoop found Lapoussin at the far post, who floated the ball over Mignolet with a header to make it 0-1. Union didn’t leave the opposition many chances but the Brugeois equalized anyway through Hans Vanaken, in a similar fashion to Lapoussin’s goal. The Brugge captain won his aerial duel against Kandouss and brought the score to 1-1 at halftime.

The home team came back stronger from the locker room, but Moris saved the game with some superb saves. Club Brugge’s best chance was for Noa Lang who went one-on-one with Moris but he was unable to find the target. Union still created some good chances towards the end of the match. But Boniface, Lynen, and Nilsson (twice) failed to score the winning goal.

Our Unionists did not return to Brussels with the three points, but they can be proud of their performance! The next match will take place at Stade Joseph Marien against Standard on Saturday, February 18th at 8:45 p.m. This game is already sold out.

Allez l’Union !
